bucharest

We caught a 3 hour train to Bucharest. Neither of us really like this place much....
it's very dirty; everyone keeps warning us about how unsafe it is (pickpockets) and to be VERY careful. There aren't very many tourists at all so we feel like constant targets. Today we went to the 'Parliament' house and did a tour. Definitely worth doing if you ever come here. It will make you realise how stuffed up this place truly is. The Parliament house is the 2nd biggest building in the world after the pentagon in USA. It’s completely made of marble. They say that 90% of the countries marble is in that building. It is sickly decadent. Over the top. A complete show off and for what? They had massive food shortages the years that it was being made. It cost around $100billion to make! The president at the time sold all the food from Romania elsewhere to pay for this building. The building was made over 5 years and finished in 1989. 60,000 people worked on it 24hours a day for 5 years. Romania is a POOR country and this building is proof of why. And also why communism does not work.
Feeling strongly about it because we don't like this city's extremes. This is the worst city (in terms of extremes) so far...for those who don't know, the president who built the Parliament house was assassinated in 1989. With very good reason!
Other then that....it's hot again but a drier heat. We just had a yummy lunch and now booking a sailing trip in turkey. Neither of us feel like doing any site seeing for a while, so sailing in turkey is PERFECT!
We leave for Istanbul tomorrow. It’s a 20hour train ride (woooo....) we are so looking forward to turkey! Everyone talks the place up so much so it will be very cool to see it for ourselves!
Ciao!
xx
